Events done right can power PR beyond expectation

Solve

The Department of Physics had a unique opportunity to enhance its reputation among many audiences with the dedication of its new home, Jorgensen Hall, but it needed help to make the most of its moment in the sun.

Create

University Communications recommended orchestrating a media-attention-getting contest to see how someone could creatively apply physics thinking to cut the ceremonial ribbon at the building's dedication as part of a week full of physics activities. Forty contest submissions, a fully crowded dedication and front page media coverage (in addition to a special advertising section in the Omaha World-Herald) later, the word was out: physics at Nebraska matters.

Connect

Physics engaged with its audiences in ways that wouldn't be possible with a run-of-the-mill approach. Watch a video of the Jorgensen Hall ribbon-cutting ceremony.
