A Lincoln cultural staple, Jazz in June was approaching its 24th season as a free outdoor concert series at UNL in 2015. The lineup featured the Rad Trads, Swing Fever, UNL Faculty Jazz Ensemble, Grand Marquis and the Jason Marsalis Vibes Quartet – all with the inspiration of New Orleans jazz behind their set lists.
Posters and campaigns promoting the series over the years have been highly sophisticated, well-crafted, award-winning and memorable, and the expectation for 2015 was no different. University Communications responded with multiple creative options and narrowed the concepts to three presented to our client. All lent themselves to use as posters, postcards, web/digital graphics.
The winner? It featured a typical Dixieland / New Orleans jazz ensemble with musicians dressed in casual summer wear. A fresh take on the long-running series clearly communicated “summer concert” while delivering the unique New Orleans flavor audiences enjoyed each Tuesday evening in June. It was also a great opportunity to partner with Student Involvement’s Mike Jackson and show off his illustration skills. To Jackson and our friends behind Jazz in June, thanks for the collaboration.
