University Communication and Marketing promotes and protects the reputation and relevance of Nebraska’s flagship, land-grant and Big Ten university. From producing national broadcast commercials, to placing our stories in the largest media sources in the country, to informing and cultivating our online community through our web and social channels, we produce strategic communications that shape the public perception of our institution.

Through deep institutional knowledge and insight combined with skill and craft in our profession, we work with partners across campus and in the community to tell the university's stories and champion our brand. Each project begins with an assessment of goals, as well as an intake of the stakeholders and internal and external audiences at play. This strategic approach to communication and marketing ensures that the university’s message is shared effectively.

We bring the voice of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln to life by leveraging our brand position and assets that add value to every university message. We produce resources, like our brand guide, which serve as a manual for the tone, look and feel of UNL.

Crisis Communication and Management

We handle the internal and external facets of crisis communication and work with campus partners on any rising issues of concern. Through collecting, processing and disseminating pertinent information on the issues facing our campus, we provide transparent and reliable responses for our community.

Digital Experience Group

We oversee the management of the framework, including our website homepage and other top-level pages. Our team is also responsible for the UNL content management system that supports over 800 university-affiliated sites and maintaining high-traffic applications, including the university’s Events, Maps and Mediahub. Additionally, we collaborate with campus partners on website strategy and development. We provide support to web developers across campus through the Web Developers Network, where we meet monthly to discuss updates to our systems, new web trends and best practices within the industry.

Executive Communications

We support the chancellor and advise the university’s senior leadership team in effective executive communication strategies.

Internal Communications

We tell the good news of our faculty, students and staff through our university news site, Nebraska Today. As the central news and information hub of our institution, we develop strategic written and visual content that reflects the university’s mission of research, teaching and outreach for key audiences across our state and nation.

From producing our national institutional TV spot to elevating the university’s research strengths and award-winning creative work, we deliver impactful communications to reach key audiences. Media Relations and Training

We pitch stories to local and national outlets, field questions and inquiries, and direct reporters to sources and subject experts within the university. Additionally, we provide extensive media training to faculty, staff and students who receive media requests.

Multimedia and Creative

We create content that exemplifies our institution and has relevance in the industry. Through written form, video production, photography and visual design, we uphold our brand guidelines and produce meaningful work. Additionally, our office collaborates with campus partners on their strategic communications and to ensure institutional content is cohesive and aligns with the university's goals.

We lead the collaboration of our community of communications professionals through our networks – the Web Developers Network, the Visual Communications Network and the Social Media User Group.

Social Media Collaboration and Consultation

We own the university’s digital footprint across social channels and use these mediums to reflect the brand’s mission through strategic marketing and communications. Through various measurement tools, we find the most effective ways to engage with our audiences. Our team also produces social media guidelines and best practices that are disseminated to the surrounding university social media communicators, which ensures brand cohesion.
